WATCH: LA County Sheriff says he won’t enforce vaccine mandate on his officers nor on anyone else

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva explains in an interview that he will not enforce the vaccine mandate on his officers and he won’t allow his officers to become the vaccine police for the county:

Earlier this year Villanueva refused to enforce the mask mandate and now he’s doing the same with the vaccine mandate. He explains that if his officers don’t want to get vaccinated, he won’t force them to do so. Rather, he says they are required to submit to weekly tests as a reasonable accommodation.

Villanueva argued that what the LA County board is trying to do by mandating vaccines will cost him good officers, who will just walk away instead of getting vaccinated.

He also argued that the goal posts keep moving but he won’t imposed a medical decision on his employees:

In 2020, the whole thing pre-vaccination was ICU bed capacity and ventilators. Then somehow once the vaccination became available, all of a sudden now we’re not talking about ICUs anymore. Now it became ’emergency room’. And then after that, now it’s hospitalization. So they’re moving the goalposts but the fact is we cannot impose a medical decision on each employee. They’re going to have to make that decision themselves.

Villanueva was asked about enforcing the county’s vaccine mandate at businesses. He said that businesses would have to enforce that themselves and that he won’t allow his deputies to become the ‘vaccine police’, saying that’s totally inappropriate.
