According to a new report from Reuters, the Trump admin will set a record low for refugees admitted to the U.S.
Reuters cites the Trump admin will cap “the number at 15,000, a record low in the history of the country’s modern refugee program.”
The report adds “the Republican president, seeking re-election on Nov. 3, has taken a hard line toward legal and illegal immigration, including sharply curbing refugee admissions every year since taking office in 2017.”
Trump said “Newly admitted refugees should be placed, to the maximum extent possible, in States and localities that have clearly expressed their willingness to receive refugees” and “resettled in communities that are eager and equipped to support their successful integration into American society and the labor force.”
According to Joe Biden’s website, Biden would “set the annual global refugee admissions cap to 125,000, and seek to raise it over time commensurate with our responsibility, our values, and the unprecedented global need.”
This would represent a major increase.
