Former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy is reportedly making a welcome return to politics
Straight-talking former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is making a welcome return to politics by joining President Donald Trump’s team as outside counsel to help fight the impeachment battle, according to reports.
Gowdy has reportedly agreed to help the White House during the upcoming House impeachment inquiry against the president.
According to a report by AP, an anonymous administration official confirmed that former Republican Congressman Gowdy will serve as an adviser to President Trump.
“BREAKING: CNN reports that former South Carolina Republican Representative Trey Gowdy has accepted an offer to serve as outside counsel to President Donald Trump,” Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra tweeted.

Trey Gowdy announced he was leaving Congress in 2018 to pursue a career in the ‘justice system’
The former GOP lawmaker once served as chairman for the House Oversight Committee and also served on the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees.
He became a political household name when he chaired the now-disbanded committee to investigate the deadly September 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
There, he helped uncover Hillary Clinton’s private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State.
He went on to support investigations into Clinton over her handling of classified emails.
Gowdy decided to not run for reelection in 2018 after serving eight years in the House, according to AP.
“I will not be filing for re-election to Congress nor seeking any other political or elected office; instead I will be returning to the justice system,” Gowdy said in a statement.
“Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system.”
Gowdy has slammed Adam Schiff who has been accused of committing ‘treason’ by President Trump
Last week, Gowdy slammed House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) saying he made himself a “fact witness” after revelations his office had contact with the Trump-Ukraine whistleblower.
Speaking on Fox News’s “The Story with Martha MacCallum” Friday, Gowdy blasted Schiff, who is leading the impeachment effort against Trump, saying:
“Right now he’s made himself a fact witness.”
“He is in the evidentiary chain for what happened with this whistleblower, and I hope the Republicans make him testify.”
The former South Carolina congressman called Schiff a “career offender” when it came to the truth.
He also asked how long House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would put up with Schiff.
“The same guy that had the parody a week or so ago, the same guy that says he has evidence that even [former Special Counsel Robert] Mueller couldn’t find,” Gowdy said.
“The question I had is, How long is Speaker Pelosi going to put up with Adam mishandling this investigation?”
