Senator Romney Throws A Wrench In Senate Impeachment Trial

Almost on cue, Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) on Monday threw a wrench into the upcoming Senate impeachment trial and he seems to be siding with Democrats.

The failed Republican presidential nominee said on Monday that he would like former White House national security advisor John Bolton to testify at the Senate impeachment trial.

“I would like to be able to hear from John Bolton. What the process is to make that happen, I don’t have an answer for you,” Romney told reporters on Capitol Hill.

Bolton posted a statement that if he was subpoenaed by the Senate he was, “prepared to testify.”

During the House impeachment hearings, Bolton said that he would not testify before the House Intelligence Committee unless he was subpoenaed and then ordered by a judge to defy President Trump’s wishes.

Bolton’s statement comes after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said he will not have former White House officials testify in the Senate impeachment trial. McConnell has stood firm despite the demands from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Democrats led by Speaker Pelosi claiming they want a “fair” trial.

During a floor speech, McConnell said, “We’ve heard it claimed that the same House Democrats who botched their own process should get to reach over here into the Senate and dictate our process.”

“Let me clarify Senate rules and Senate history for those who may be confused,” McConnell added. “First, about this fantasy that the Speaker of the House will get to hand-design the trial proceedings in the Senate, that’s obviously a non-starter.”

“The House went ahead without witnesses, and they didn’t pursue the witnesses in court,” he has said of the request. “They just blew right through that and accused the president of doing something improper by simply invoking executive privilege, which every president has done.”

Senator Romney is clearly playing games and trying to play both sides of the issue, he says he would like to hear Bolton testify but, doesn’t have an answer for the process. Can we get a real conservative Republican Senator voted into office in Utah? Please?
