Paul Ryan, former Republican Speaker of the House and Mitt Romney’s Vice Presidential candidate in 2012, has joined Solamere Capital as a partner.

The firm was founded in 2008 by Utah Senator Mitt Romney’s son, Tagg Romney, along with co-founders Eric Scheuermann and Spencer Zwick.

Ryan said in an interview “For 20 years in Congress, I’ve been preaching the virtues of the free-enterprise system. The reason I’m joining Solamere is that I want to practice what I preach.”

The firm has raised about $360 million according to the Wall Street Journal and has more than $1 billion in assets.
