Nancy Pelosi just botched her big CNN interview with a doomed effort to rewrite history.
The winners, not the losers, get to write history as Nancy well knows from the Bill Clinton impeachment.
Impeachment is not forever in our partisan times as she demonstrated by trying to make the claim that Trump was not acquitted because there was no “trial.”
Why else would she try to reframe the narrative if her impeachment didn’t backfire?
Pelosi undercut her own argument a few seconds later when she admitted some GOP Senators didn’t need to see any more evidence as they were not going to convict over what they considered a minor break with decorum.
CNN’s Christiane Amanpour started off by asking Pelosi if impeaching President Trump backfired and went on to explain how popular Trump is.
“What about, though, the fact that the president seems liberated, and this is about Democratic politics, so I’m not asking you to criticize here, but he was acquitted, his poll ratings are high,” Amanpour asked.
“He was not acquitted, there was no acquittal,” Pelosi snapped and cut off the CNN reporter.
“You can’t have an acquittal unless you have a trial, and you can’t have a trial unless you have witnesses and documents,” Pelosi ranted.
“So he can say he’s acquitted, and the headlines can say ‘acquitted,’ but he’s impeached forever, branded with that, and not vindicated.”
“And even the senators were saying, ‘Yes, it wasn’t right,’ but they didn’t have the courage to act upon that.”
