There some shady stuff going on in upstate New York, as a Democrat Judge is trying to bail out Speaker Pelosi.
After incumbent Democrat Rep. Anthony Brindisi trailed Republican challenger by over 28,000 votes on election night, he quickly got within 200 votes in the days following. That led to a court challenge over spoiled ballots before a Democrat judge who said he would personally “review” all of the rejected ballots.
Then lo and behold, the judge “found” enough ballots that he deemed were “okay” and gave Brindisi a 13 vote lead.
Brindisi immediately claimed victory.
“This process and the integrity of our election are critical to our republic. This judicial review has been fair, open, honest, and transparent and I remain confident that voters’ voices will be heard,” wrote Brindisi in a series of tweets.
“In January I will be sworn in and continue to work with both parties and stand up to anyone on behalf of all of New York’s 22nd district,” he added.
An Oswego County state Supreme judge stepped in and refused to let election officials certify the vote.
“Brindisi’s premature declaration of victory is further evidence that his team has no interest in ensuring a fair process that preserves the integrity of the election and protects the rights of voters. We will fight to ensure that all and only legal counts are counted — not jump to faulty conclusions,” Tenney campaign spokesman Sean Kennedy told The New York Post.
If Republicans can win this seat it would give Pelosi an even narrower majority that is down to five or six seats depending on how other elections turn out. This is why New York officials are pulling out all the stops to keep this seat in Democrat’s hands.
Regardless, of the turn out Pelosi has suffered a big blow.
Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA) spilled the beans to the Los Angeles Times:
“People were talking in a really cocky way before that Democrats were going to take the trifecta [White House, Senate and House], and we were not ever going to talk to Republicans about anything. We were going to ram all this policy down their throats,” said Rep. Scott Peters (D-San Diego), a moderate.
Ambitious liberal policies like Medicare for all and the Green New Deal are likely to be pushed to a back burner, though Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and other progressives have signaled they will continue to advocate for their movement.
Pelosi (D-San Francisco) had said before the election that Democrats would expand the Affordable Care Act by using a special procedure in the Senate that required only 50 votes, but it’s unclear now she will have even that.
The wizards of smart at the Democrat party read the tea leaves wrong and now they are barely holding on.
Which leads to another question that no one has been able to answer. If Republicans did so well down-ballot, how the heck did President Trump not win the election?
