2020 candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) argued on CNN’s “State of the Union,” on Sunday that there isn’t any reason why Hunter Biden, former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, should testify before the House in the impeachment inquiry against President Trump.

How we got here: Republicans on Sunday requested that Hunter Biden and the whistleblower, whose complaint triggered the impeachment proceedings, be called to testify in public hearings before that are scheduled to begin next week on Wednesday. Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee send a list, which included the pair, to the panel’s Democratic chairman, Adam Schiff, slamming the Democratic efforts as a “sham impeachment process” and accusing them of mistreating the president.
Biden became embroiled in the controversy because of his past work and ties to Ukraine. He sat on the board of the Ukranian natural gas company Burisma Holdings, despite having no experience in that area, while his father served as the point person for Ukraine under the Obama administration.
Schiff signaled that neither of the two will testify.
“This inquiry is not, and will not serve … as a vehicle to undertake the same sham investigations into the Bidens or 2016 that the President pressed Ukraine to conduct for his personal political benefit, or to facilitate the President’s effort to threaten, intimidate, and retaliate against the whistleblower who courageously raised the initial alarm,” he said.

Klobuchar’s comments: “I see no reason why you would have Hunter Biden testify when from what all of the report we’ve seen is this is not a valid investigation. Something with the president was messing around to try to get information against a political opponent,” she said.
Different standards for women? Klobuchar, during the interview, suggested women in politics face more obstacles than men, including herself and her fellow 2020 candidates.
“Of the women on the stage… do I think we would be standing on that stage if we had the experience that [Mayor Pete Buttigieg] had? No, I don’t. Maybe we’re held to a different standard.” – Sen. Amy Klobuchar on Mayor Buttigieg’s qualifications #CNNSOTU pic.twitter.com/xz0cEH86OZ

“Of the women on the stage, I’m focusing here on my fellow women senators, Sens. Harris and Warren and myself, do I think we would be standing on that stage if we had the experience that he had? No, I don’t,” Klobuchar said. “Maybe we’re held to a different standard.”
