Ivanka Trump says the identity of the whistleblower is “not particularly relevant”

by Paul Goldberg

On Friday, Ivanka Trump said the Ukraine whistleblower’s identity is “not particularly relevant,” adding that the person’s motives are more important. President Trump and his administration have repeatedly requested the public release of the whistleblower’s name, and have continued to condemn the individual.

The interview: During an interview with the Associated Press, the president’s daughter said “the whistleblower shouldn’t be a substantive part of the conversation,” adding that the person “did not have firsthand information.” While referencing the identity of the whistleblower, Ivanka said: “to me, it’s not particularly relevant aside from what the motivation behind all of this was.”

She seems to share the president’s opinion that the impeachment inquiry is about “overturning the results of the 2016 election.”

“Basically since the election, this has been the experience that our administration and our family has been having,” Ivanka Trump said. “The interest in overturning the results of the 2016 election and removing him from office. So rather than wait, under a year, until the people can decide for themselves based on his record and based on his accomplishments, this new effort has commenced.”

“But to us, it’s really been like this from the beginning,” she added. She also discussed Joe Biden and his son Hunter and her family’s criticism of them.

When asked about her father’s July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which is the central thrust of the inquiry, she said, “The president put forth a transcript.”

“So everything is in the transcript.”

Trump’s allegation: On Sunday, President Trump alleged that the whistleblower was associated with Obama administration officials, reports The Hill.

“There have been stories written about a certain individual, a male, and they say he’s the whistleblower,” Trump said. “If he’s the whistleblower, he has no credibility because he’s a [John] Brennan guy, he’s a Susan Rice guy, he’s an Obama guy. And he hates Trump.”

“Now, maybe it’s not him. But if it’s him, you guys ought to release the information,” he added.
