There’s a lot of year-end awfulness and the latest is an armed attack at a church in Texas. From the Washington Examiner:
Two people have died and another was injured after a gunman opened fire at a Texas church on Sunday.
Three people were shot at the West Freeway Church of Christ in Tarrant County, which is west of Fort Worth. According to authorities, two victims have succumbed to their wounds and died, while the other remains in critical condition.
The incident reportedly happened around 11:30 a.m. local time. Witnesses said they saw the gunman shoot someone with a shotgun during communion, which prompted another parishioner to take him down. Information on the suspect was not immediately available.
Pretty terrible. Other reports say it was a rifle.

UPDATE: Apparently the church was livestreaming the service. And the shooting happened during communion.
That it happened during communion, a very important part of Christian worship, makes me think this might have been someone targeting Christians for their faith, instead of someone with a personal vendetta against an individual. But it’s still early to make any certain claims.
This looks like a screenshot from the livestream:
Here’s a link to the video. It has a portion blurred out. But you can see the response was immediate. This could have been much much worse.
I’ll update when more details are available…
