The Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, has suggested that Americans should never shake hands again once the coronavirus pandemic is over.

“When you gradually come back, you don’t jump into it with both feet,” Fauci said.

“You say, what are the things you could still do and still approach normal?” he asked.

“One of them is absolute compulsive hand-washing.

“The other is you don’t ever shake anybody’s hands,” Fauci told The Wall Street Journal’s podcast.

“I don’t think we should ever shake hands ever again, to be honest with you,” Fauci continued.

“Not only would it be good to prevent coronavirus disease; it probably would decrease instances of influenza dramatically in this country,” the doctor added.

Earlier this week, Fauci, claimed that the world might never return to the “normal” after the coronavirus outbreak.

Although Fauci said the world would gradually begin functioning as a society again, he said the looming threat of the virus will always be there.

“When we get back to normal, we will go back to the point where we can function as a society,” he said.

“If you want to get back to pre-coronavirus, that might not ever happen in the sense that the threat is there,” he added.

Fauci also sidestepped the backlash against the World Health Organization(WHO) after President Donald Trump said he was considering cutting its funding due to its handling of the coronavirus crisis, along with its alleged role in supporting China’s propaganda.

Trump tweeted:

“The W.H.O. really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China centric. We will be giving that a good look. Fortunately, I rejected their advice on keeping our borders open to China early on. Why did they give us such a faulty recommendation?”

Fauci responded by saying he’d “rather not get involved.”
