by Paul Goldberg

Democrats have flipped a Kentucky Senate seat blue that the GOP held for 25 years.

Mark Vanderhoof of WLKY announced:

In Jefferson County, Democrat Karen Berg has 15,033 votes and Republican Bill Ferko has 7,604 votes.

The special election for Ky Senate District 26 also includes Oldham County.

Democrats have flipped a Kentucky Senate seat.

In a special election for Republican Ernie Harris’s seat, Democrat Karen Berg beat Republican Bill Ferko.

University of Kentucky political scientist Stephen Voss said “Nationwide, the Republicans are in great danger of losing the upper-status professionals who used to side with them, If that realignment in those voters becomes permanent, then the Republican Party is in trouble.”

Kentucky Senate Dem leader Morgan McGarvey wrote:

Join me in welcoming @karenforky to the Kentucky Senate! Dr. Karen Berg is the first woman physician EVER elected to the General Assembly and is the first Democrat to pick up a Kentucky senate seat in 10 years! We are so excited to have her as our colleague in Frankfort.
